When is Spirit of Tasmania relocating to Geelong?

Spirit of Tasmania’s Victorian terminal will be moving to Geelong in spring 2022.

When will I be able to book travel to/from Geelong?

Sailings between Devonport and Geelong are now open from 1 January 2023. If you book to travel from September 2022, there is a chance that you may depart from or arrive into Geelong. All passengers will be notified in advance if there is a change to their departure/arrival port.

Why is Spirit of Tasmania moving to Geelong?

Over the years our service has grown from strength to strength to the point where we have outgrown our home port at Station Pier, Port Melbourne. The new purpose-designed facility will create an enhanced experience for passengers with: easy access; ample parking for passenger vehicles; state-of-the art technology to enable seamless boarding and security processes; and comfortable and accessible passenger lounges with a café and children’s play area. The new terminal will also accommodate the larger Spirit of Tasmania vessels that are due to arrive in late 2023 and late 2024.

Will the crossing from Devonport to Geelong be shorter or longer than the current crossing?

The voyage times will be comparable to the existing crossing.

Will my current booking be changed?

If you have booked to travel from September 2022 onwards, your sailing may be changed to depart/arrive in Geelong. If this is the case, you will be contacted by our Customer Contact Centre in advance of your booking.

If I am already booked and the new port location does not suit my needs, can I amend or cancel my booking?

Yes if you have an existing booking and you wish to cancel or amend your booking due to a change in the port location, you can manage your booking online, contact your travel agent or call 1800 634 906. Please note standard fare rules will apply.

Will there be public transport to the terminal?

Spirit of Tasmania will be working closely with the relevant stakeholders to look at all access points to the new terminal including options for public transport. The closest stations are North Shore Station and North Geelong Station.

Will there be parking facilities at the new location?

Yes, there will be ample parking for passengers. There will be a marshalling area for 600 cars as well as a dedicated passenger drop off/pick up area.

Where in Geelong will the new terminal be located?

The new terminal will be located at GeelongPort’s Corio Quay South Precinct which is located just off Corio Quay Road in North Geelong. Prior to the move to Geelong directional signage will be installed on all major roads leading to the terminal.
