In the event petrol residual is identified inside an empty Jerry Can or Boat Fuel Can the passengers must fill the container with water before being allowed to travel. What happens with gas bottles?

If you have a standard passenger vehicle with a gas bottle or butane canisters loose and not in their original packaging contained within the vehicle, the item will be deposited with security, tagged with your passenger details including booking number and can be collected upon disembarkation. All loose gas bottles including butane cylinder canisters, (subject to quantities deemed as personal use and not for commercial use), can remain in the passenger accompanies vehicle providing:- Utility vehicles and open trailers – one bottle (maximum size 9 litres (25L) capacity). Caravans / motor home / campers / etc. ONE additional bottle (maximum size 25 kg (50 litre water capacity)). Gas bottle is secure within/on the vehicle. Gas bottle is secured in the upright position. Gas bottle is turned off. Check gas bottle is within validation. All gas bottle that meet the aforementioned conditions will be tagged with a “HAZARD” tag to ensure gas bottle is not turned on whilst gas bottle is within TT-Line’s terminals or onboard a TT-Line vessel and remain with the passenger accompanied vehicle. Gas bottles that do not meet the aforementioned conditions will either be confiscated and disposed of if validation has expired, or will be deposited and collected upon disembarkation. Are carers entitled to book a pensioner fare?

A pensioner fare is only offered to a carer meeting the following criteria: The adult person they care for must be a recipient and holder of an Australian Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card Nominated as a carer for a Companion Cardholder Carers delivering assistance and support to a passenger in accordance with the requirements outlined above The carer must travel on the same booking with the passenger they care for You can read further information about Pensioner Eligibility here

Yes, Spirit of Tasmania places a high importance on the welfare and safety of animals in its care. Since July 2018, Spirit of Tasmania has safely transported more than 32,000 pets.

The Geelong terminal is called Spirit of Tasmania Quay and is located at 136 Corio Quay Road, North Geelong. Look out for directional signage on all major roads leading to the terminal.

We recommend checking with the rental car company before booking, as restrictions may apply to vehicles travelling on Spirit of Tasmania. To make an online booking without knowing the make, model, and registration of the car, choose ‘other’ for the make and model and leave the registration blank.

When a passenger with a mobility impairment is travelling with us and is attaching their wheelchair, scooter, or gopher to the rear of their vehicle, we will not charge for the additional length. This also includes if the scooter or gopher is being transported on a mini trailer.

A pensioner fare is only offered to a carer meeting the following criteria:

We prefer transparency. By keeping it separate, you can see exactly how fuel costs impact your ticket. It also means we can adjust or remove it for future bookings as prices change. It will remain in place for any existing bookings where it has already been applied.

Existing bookings are unaffected. The surcharge only applies to new bookings made on or after 31 March 2026.

No. It is a temporary measure that will be reviewed monthly in line with market conditions. We are monitoring the global situation closely and are committed to removing or adjusting this surcharge as soon as market conditions stabilize.

Our marine fuel supplier has assured us that they have sufficient stock for the Spirit of Tasmania to maintain all our scheduled sailings. All scheduled sailings are operating as normal.

Spirit of Tasmania’s freight charging framework already incorporates a fuel surcharge that is adjusted monthly. This is an industry-standard practice.

Yes, Spirit of Tasmania has considered a number of other options to support the management of fuel.

The fuel surcharge applies at the time the booking is made, irrespective of travel date.

To ensure our fuel surcharge remains fair for every passenger, we apply it as a percentage of your total booking value rather than a flat fee. By tying the surcharge to the total booking value, we ensure that the cost stays in balance with the booking components.

The fuel surcharge is 15 per cent and will be calculated as a percentage of your total booking value.

The surcharge is applied at the time of booking. The only adjustment to the surcharge will be if the overall value of your booking increases or decreases.

No. The fuel surcharge is nonrefundable.

Existing bookings remain unaffected. Regular amendment and fare changes still apply.

The fuel surcharge will take effect week commencing 31 March 2026.

Due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, global fuel prices have risen sharply, impacting our operational costs. To date Spirit of Tasmania has absorbed the additional costs. Due to the continued uncertainty of the duration of the market conditions, it has become necessary to introduce a fuel surcharge.

All cabins on Spirit of Tasmania have linen provided including sheets, doonas, pillows and towels. If you are travelling with an infant, you will need to bring linen for the cot (cot is provided free of charge). Passengers in recliners are provided with pillows and blankets.

Your cabin contains bed linen, towels and soap. We recommend taking personal toiletries, medication and clothing items in an overnight bag. If you are travelling with an infant, a cot has automatically been booked for you. However, you will need to bring linen for the cot.

Yes, all drivers board in their vehicle with their passengers. The Spirit of Tasmania wharf crew will direct you when loading and advise where to park on board.

Vehicle sizes are subject to confirmation on check-in and if the incorrect details have been provided you may be charged an extra fee. Measuring length: This should be the full length of the vehicle including towed items (caravan, camper trailer or trailer) and attachments (drawbar, bike racks, gas cylinders etc.). Measuring height: Vehicle height must include roof racks and any additional items stored on the roof of the vehicle (kayaks, baggage, bicycles etc.). No. For safety reasons, passengers are not allowed on the vehicle deck during the voyage.

Yes. However, if you are not a passenger on the ship, you will need to book through our freight department. Higher rates apply, as the advertised fare only applies to cars accompanying passengers. Request a freight quote using our form.

Standard vehicles can have a maximum total length of 6.0 m and a maximum width of 2.0 m (i.e., normal car, people mover, 4WD, ute).

Yes, your motorhome or towed unit can be booked online. You will be required to provide registration details of all towed units in addition to your vehicle. A maximum of 14 vehicles are allowed per booking, provided there is an eligible passenger for each vehicle.

No, you cannot book this as a return booking. However, you can make two separate bookings if the date is the same for each departure.

Bookings and amendments handled by our customer contact centre and terminal services team incur a $10 booking fee and a $50 amendment fee. These fees are non-refundable when making online amendments and cancellations that result in a refund due. For more information, refer to the Terms and Conditions of Refund here

Direct bookings made online at Spirit of Tasmania, via Spirit of Tasmania’s customer contact centre, or at Spirit of Tasmania’s terminals can be amended online. Travel agent, freight, group and special event bookings will not be available to amend online. There is no limit on how many times you can change your booking within the ticket validity. You can change your booking online at My booking. Amendments are subject to availability. For more information, refer to the fare rules of the selected fare.

Multiple payment options are available online. You can pay the remaining balance of your booking using a credit card or with a valid Spirit of Tasmania gift voucher.

If you are travelling with a vehicle, you cannot book a bicycle separately. The bicycle will need to be carried on a bike rack or roof rack. To add a bike rack or roof rack to your vehicle, go to Manage my booking, select the ‘Add, change or remove vehicle’ option and edit your vehicle. If you are not travelling with a vehicle, you can add a bicycle to your booking, simply go to Manage my booking and select the ‘Add or remove a bicycle’ option.

Yes, once your amendments have been confirmed, an updated itinerary/e-ticket will be sent to your specified email address.

Online bookings can be paid with Spirit of Tasmania gift voucher or credit card. Card Payment Fees apply. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB credit cards. At most times, bookings are open for the next 11 months only. This eliminates any booking errors related to confusing travel dates.

To support the successful introduction of Spirit of Tasmania IV and Spirit of Tasmania V, TT-Line has scheduled a planned transition period during the final week of October 2026.

This transition period is an important part of the Spirit Operational Readiness Program and provides the time needed to safely complete the changeover from the existing vessels to the new fleet. It includes final operational activities, crew transitions, commissioning, systems verification and vessel preparation ahead of the first commercial sailings.

Transition periods are a normal part of projects of this scale and help ensure the new vessels, supporting infrastructure and operational teams are fully prepared to deliver a safe, reliable and high-quality service from day one. The period also provides the opportunity to undertake live operational testing of systems and processes, helping ensure a smooth transition to service and a seamless customer experience when we commence sailings.

Services are expected to commence end of October with the introduction of Spirit of Tasmania IV and V, marking the beginning of a new era of Bass Strait travel.

The kennels are in a climate-controlled environment, which helps maintain an ideal temperature for pets, regardless of the weather conditions outside.

On Spirit of Tasmania IV & V, the kennel area is separate from the vehicle decks and is accessible by crew during the journey. The new kennel area will be climate-controlled and have CCTV video surveillance. Latest technology ensures that passengers only have access to unlock their own pet’s kennel during boarding and departure only. For safety reasons, passengers are not permitted to access the kennel area while the ship is at sea.

Pets are not permitted in the recliner area. Passengers wishing to travel with their pet, must book a pet kennel for their pet or a pet-friendly cabin (only available on Spirit of Tasmania IV & V). Excludes assistance animals.

To ensure passenger safety, pets are not permitted in general passenger areas.

For pets travelling in the pet cabins on Spirit of Tasmania IV & V, a designated area will be advised at the time of check-in. Pets travelling in the kennel area are required to remain in their kennel for the duration of the sailing.

Yes – Passengers are encouraged to bring their own bedding when booking a kennel or pet cabin (only available on Spirit of Tasmania IV & V).

The designated pet cabins on Spirit of Tasmania IV and V are specifically designed to accommodate domestic dogs and cats.

Pet cabins are not on sale yet. We are releasing the new ships into the booking platform in two steps:

Stage 1: You can book cabins and recliners similar to our current ships, plus extra space for vehicles. (Available for booking now for travel after October 31 2026)
Stage 2: We will add the new accommodation types, including pet cabins.

We expect pet cabins to be available to book by late 2026.

The completion date of Berth 3 has been brought forward to October 2026. The new infrastructure is now anticipated to be in place and ready to welcome the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels into operations in time for the 2026-27 peak summer season. This is four months earlier than the previously announced anticipated completion of February 2027.

The current vessels, Spirit of Tasmania I and Spirit of Tasmania II, have proudly served as a vital gateway between Tasmania and mainland Australia, offering over 850 sailings per year and building an impeccable service record. Upon the arrival of the new Spirit of Tasmania IV and Spirit of Tasmania V, these reliable and well-maintained ships will be sold, where they will continue their legacy of excellence on ferry routes in other parts of the world. Their transition marks an exciting step forward as we welcome a new era of enhanced passenger and freight services.

When the new ships start operating, our schedule will only include night sailings. Our timetable can change based on demand. The new ships have much more space, especially for caravans, motorhomes and other large vehicles. If demand is higher than this extra capacity, we will look at adding day sailings in the future.

We expect to have the full range of new ship accommodation available by late 2026. If anything changes that affects your booking, we will contact you and give you options. These options will include the ability to change or cancel your booking.

Yes. You can book now and change your booking to a pet cabin once they go on sale, as long as there is availability. Standard booking rules apply, so change fees and fare differences may apply.

Spirit of Tasmania IV & V are designed to elevate the passenger experience with a wide range of onboard services and amenities. Featuring diverse dining options, bars, cinemas, shops, video gaming and arcade facilities and dedicated children’s areas, these ships ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable journey for every passenger.

Spirit of Tasmania IV and Spirit of Tasmania V each measure 212 metres in length and offer significantly enhanced capacity. These vessels can accommodate up to 1,800 passengers and provide 4,098 lane metres for vehicles, ensuring ample space for passengers, their vehicles, and freight. In comparison, the current vessels, Spirit of Tasmania I and Spirit of Tasmania II, are 194.3 metres in length and have a passenger capacity of approximately 1,400, with 2,565 lane metres for vehicles. The new ships represent a significant upgrade in size and capacity, particularly high-space capacity for larger vehicles such as caravans and motorhomes. The introduction of pet-friendly accommodation on the Spirit of Tasmania IV and Spirit of Tasmania V will enhance the travel experience for passengers who wish to bring their pets along. While pets are currently cared for in kennels, the new options allow passengers to book pet-friendly rooms or place their pets in a climate-controlled, secure kennel area during the journey. This will allow passengers and their pets a more comfortable and convenient travel experience.

Prices vary by route and sailing because fares are set based on forecast demand, so each sailing may be priced differently depending on how busy we expect it to be. We have refined our demand-based pricing approach to give us more flexibility to respond to changing market conditions. When you book, you can still choose fare options with flexible conditions, and you may see more attractive prices depending on the sailing and fare option you choose.

We are still planning the changeover from Spirit of Tasmania I and II to Spirit of Tasmania IV and V. Once this plan is final, we will confirm the first sailing dates for Spirit of Tasmania IV and V. Please note that sailings from 31 October 2026 are not expected to be the first sailings for Spirit of Tasmania IV and V. We suggest you subscribe to our newsletter so you can be updated when the first sailing dates are confirmed.

On Spirit of Tasmania I and II, our kennels vary in size. As a guide, the approximate measurements are: 700mm wide x 800mm high x 900mm deep. If your animal needs a larger kennel, unfortunately, we are unable to assist and you must arrange an alternative suitable option. Please refer to our Conditions of Carriage – Section 16: Animals Please note, we are unable to allocate or reserve kennel sizes relevant to the size of your pet prior to boarding. A pet attendant is available on deck 5 during boarding to assist passengers with the assignment of an appropriate sized kennel. On Spirit of Tasmania IV and V, the kennels are available in different sizes to accommodate pets of all breeds and sizes, ensuring comfort during the journey.

On Spirit of Tasmania I and II, pets are not allowed inside cabins (with the exception of assistance animals). On Spirit of Tasmania IV and V there are designated pet cabins specifically designed to accommodate domestic dogs and cats.

I have mobility challenges and the staff from the first phone call to make enquiries, to the staff at the Geelong terminal and then those on board, were100% helpful and kind. It’s was the kindness and genuine willingness to help that struck me most. Thank you all so much. Our cabin was clean, well provisioned and comfortable.

This is both 5 stars for Geelong and Devonport terminal. We were due to get on the 10pm ferry, 2ks from the terminal our car broke down. Devonport towed our vehicle onto the ship with no drama and then Geelong towed us off and put us up in the truckies lounge until we sorted out a tow to the mechanic. All the staff were nothing but helpful and supportive. Thankyou so much!

I would like to sincerely thank your wonderful staff for going out of thier way in assisting me to be able to get our Car and Caravan onto the ship. Because of my partners inability to be able to walk or drive I was left to negotiate the boarding myself, but the fantastic friendly ground crew guided me all the way. I would also like recommend the office staff who arranged a cabin for George and organiszed a wheelchair medical assistant to deliver George to the ship where he deposited him in to the cabin, I was given a site on the ship that was right next to the entrance and only a few meters from the lift, where I found the cabin only 5 metres from the lift. I cannot praise all those people enough who helped me through a very stresstful time.
